Martha G. Rayle, FASID, IIDA, Offers 10-Step Plan for Transitioning to Open Environments

Marty Rayle has seen the move from private to open offices from every angle — from corporate real estate executive to designer. Marty has worked both as a consultant helping companies change to open plan and also has been part of in house facilities teams charged with making a change happen. Over the course of her career, she has worked in private offices, cube farms, and open-bullpens, has telecommuted, and been mobile. She also confesses that she has read way too many Dilbert strips.

In her current role as vice president of HOK Advance Strategies in Los Angeles, Marty authored an article that includes a 10-step plan for an effective change management program and a case study detailing how one Fortune 500 company evaluated the effectiveness of a move to open offices. The article was published in the August 2007 edition of Building Operating Management.

Marty has held senior corporate real estate positions in two Fortune 500 companies and also has been a corporate internal management consultant. Her long history of corporate strategy development in business, real estate, and facilities has provided her with unique experience and value for clients. Her expertise is developing real estate, facilities, and workplace strategies that express and support clients’ business strategies.

With 20 years as a leader and project manager for large A/E firms, Marty has consulted to more than a dozen Fortune 500 firms and completed more than 50 projects.
